WSS: Morais makes impression on WSS debut

Sheridan Morais put himself in position for future World Supersport Championship rides after a superb debut performance for Yamaha YZF saw him finish in sixth position.

The former Superstock 1000 rider was drafted into the team as a replacement for the injured Doni Tata Pradita, the South African proceeding to shine in free practice before qualifying well in 13th position.

Moving into the top ten from the start, Morais became embroiled in a fight with the experienced Massimo Roccoli and former champion Kenan Sofuoglu, the 24-year-old going on to cause a stir by beating them – and Garry McCoy – to the finish line.

Recording the Yamaha YZF team's best result of the season, Morais was thrilled to be taking on – and beating – a series of top names at his first attempt.

“This is brilliant. I had a good start and I progressed well. It was a great race with Massimo Roccoli and Kenan Sofuoglu. I really enjoyed it. Thank you to Martial and everybody in the team who did a very good job.”

Team manager Martial Garcia was also hugely impressed by Morais performance, but maintains Pradita will be on the bike for the next round at the Nurburgring.

“The team progressed well this week-end and the 6th position is a great result. It was a good opportunity for us to tune our new Magnetti-Marelli injection.

"This will be very helpful when our permanent rider Doni Tata Pradita will be shortly back with us. Thank you to Sheridan and to the whole team for the excellent quality of the work that was done.”

PLEASE. Someone give this kid a decent permanent ride. Sheridan is pure class and has shone every time he has been thrown the tiniest little bone. I just don't understand how some riders who are clearly not really interested get rides and talent like Sheridan just gets discarded.

Well done Shezza!!! Paul Bird, please give this kid a go, Tamadasan is not feeling himself...and Mr. Hacking did not cover himself in too much glory either...and Brock was challenged by Sheridan! This kid needs a break, a talent this good sitting playing substitute rider...it is a waste of talent. Ok now the best result of the year for a strugling SSP team...and Sheridan helped to sort out the new Magnetti Marelli management system, I think he deserves a permanent ride!!!! Go Shezshow, love your work from Dutchman!! :D
