Neukirchner working towards fitness again

Despite the disappointment of missing his home event, Max Neukirchner insists he isn't ready rush his comeback from injury having already been forced to abort an earlier return.

Neukirchner was planning a return to World Superbikes at Brno having recovered from a broken leg sustained in a crash at Monza. However, a further accident during testing prior to the Czech round left the German rider with a fractured vertebrae, sidelining him for several more weeks.

Although the lengthy summer break meant Neukirchner was working towards a return for his long-awaited home round at the Nurburgring, he has decided to focus on getting fully fit again before throwing his leg back over the Suzuki Alstare Brux machine.

“Firstly I would like to wish Yukio and Karl (Muggeridge, who stands in for Neukirchner this weekend) all the best for this weekend and hope the results will be good. I will be at the Nürburgring and supporting the team, even though it's going to be a bit frustrating just watching.

“A few weeks ago I went to my specialist and then had two operations - one on my back and one on my side. The operations went very successfully and now I am able to carry on my rehabilitation with static cycling and swimming again. I had some screws put in my back and a metal plate in my side and now I do not have to wear a body cast anymore, which makes life more comfortable.

“It has been a bit frustrating at times, but now I am much more happy because I can train again and can look forward to getting back on my bike. I will come to the Nurburgring and discuss everything with Francis about the next couple of months and I hope to also meet a lot of my fans.

Neukirchner will have company on the sidelines, however, after BMW rider Ruben Xaus was forced to withdraw with a broken leg himself. Neukirchner went on to joke that the Spaniard should wait until he is full fit before attempting to ride again…

“I have had great support from my fans and sponsors and many good wishes from others, including a nice one from Ruben Xaus. Same to you, Ruben, and take my advice and don't come back until you are properly fit!

feline i think Max cant wait to get back in the saddle and these unlucky breaks, excuse the pun, will make him more determined than ever. Max is a champion a couple of broken bones is a minor set back for a WSBK rider.
