Matteo Baiocco is to make a return to the World Superbike Championship from the 11th round of the series at the Nurburgring after inking a deal with Guandalini Ducati.

The Italian, a former FIM Superstock 1000 front runner, began the season with the PSG-1 Corse Kawasaki team, but was left on the sidelines when the Sammarinese team withdrew for financial reasons ahead of Donington Park.

Nonetheless, despite originally being linked to DFX Ducati, Baiocco will travel to Germany with Guandalini Racing having already signed with them to compete in the Italian based CIV Superbike series.

Joining Misano pole sitter Jakub Smrz in the team, Baiocco was delighted to be getting a second chance to compete on the premier Superbike stage.

"I am very happy to be coming back to World Superbikes and to be on board a competitive bike. After the win last weekend in the CIV at Misano, I have a better feeling with the bike and I am 100 per cent prepared, psychologically speaking. I can't wait to get back on the bike."

Baiocco scored three points with PSG-1 Corse, while he becomes the third different rider to compete on the second 1098RS following Brendan Roberts and Gregorio Lavilla.
