Sykes 'really disappointed'

Tom Sykes admits he is going to have to come up with 'something special' over the remaining three World Superbike rounds after being mired in the bottom end of the top ten during the two races at the Nurburgring.

Sykes is under pressure to get on the podium at least once this year as he fights to retain his ride for 2010, the former British Superbike race winner now disputing just a single seat at Yamaha following the confirmation that Ben Spies will remain next season.

Although provisional qualifying and free practice had indicated a strong turn for Sykes, his eventual ninth position on the grid left him unable to progress far beyond that in the races.

Blaming a lack of grip for failing to improve on his eventual ninth and eighth place results, Sykes is now determined to move on from the weekend.

“I'm really disappointed to be honest, my pace in warm up this morning was quite impressive and I knew going into the races that repeating those lap times would mean we were running at the front,” he said. “Unfortunately we couldn't repeat it, we were really struggling for grip which we could see in the data afterwards.

“My braking, corner entry and everything was the same but when I got on the gas I couldn't use the same percentage of throttle that I was this morning. We tried to change something in race two but it didn't seem to help.

“I'm certainly looking forward to putting this weekend behind me and moving on. We've got three rounds left now to come up with something special so we'll see what we comes out."

Will have to be something spectacular for Tom to keep his ride now, I fear. He's disappointed on too many occasions this season, with promising qualifying sessions only to be followed by mediocre mid-pack race results. Unless he turns things around dramatically for the last few rounds, Camier will almost certainly take his ride for next year.
