Eugene Laverty thinks this weekend's Imola round will provide his 'best chance' to get back in touch with 2009 World Supersport Championship leader Cal Crutchlow.
Crutchlow bounced back from a costly DNF at Brno to beat Laverty by over ten seconds in Germany, handing the Englishman a 22 point lead heading into the final three rounds of the season.
“I think this will be our best chance to get back in touch with Crutchlow,” said Parkalgar Honda rider Laverty, who won three of the first six races but has now gone five rounds without a victory.
“We had a good test there and our bike was working well. I'm hopeful of getting back on the top step of the podium it's been a while.
“We should have a bit more horsepower than we had in the last race and we have a few new things to try, with gearing mainly. I'm confident in the work the team has done,” he declared.
Crutchlow, also racing in his first full World Supersport season, has taken five wins for Yamaha.
