Injured Parkes to miss season opener

Doctors say the former Kawasaki rider will take six weeks to recover from his injuries
Broc Parkes will miss the start of the 2010 World Superbike Championship season after breaking the tibia of his right leg in a training accident.

Parkes was due to make his race debut with the Echo CRS Honda team at his home Phillip Island event in Australia, but the severity of his injury means he will be out of action for at least six weeks.

A blow to both rider and team, which is stepping up to Superbikes from the Supersport category this season, Echo CRS manager Sandro Di Stefano is nonetheless hopeful he will be able to source a replacement for Parkes before the curtain raiser in just over a week's time.

"I wish Broc all the best for an early recovery; we are waiting anxiously for his return," declared team manager Sandro Di Stefano. "Now he has to concentrate on getting back into the best condition as soon as possible.

“This is a false start for us and it complicates our debut. Superbike is a difficult category, where every minor detail must be taken care of. Things like this confirm how much the human factor is one of the elements that can occasionally slip out of control.”

Parkes is hoping to be fit in time for the second round of the season in Portugal, to be held on March 26th.

If Echo want to go good call Wayne Maxwell. Fact is he was faster than Spies at the Island last year and nearly into the 31's. Way faster than most mid pack motoGP riders on a what you europeans would call a "Superstock" machine. The guy is a machine at the island. Was nearly a second faster than Johnny Rea on his FIM spec bike...
