B&G impress on debut outing

Borciani and Guandalini Racing prove to be a match made in heaven on the amalgamated team's World Superbike debut during testing at Phillip Island
Its first public appearance may have come just days before the start of the World Superbike season, but B&G Racing wasted no time in making its presence felt at the top of the timesheets by producing the third quickest lap in testing at Phillip Island.

The team, which is made up of the Borciani and Guandalini Racing teams, has been forced to continually delay its first track outings as it sorted out a bike and sponsorship deals for the new year, but it took them barely any time to get amongst the pace setters in Australia.

With Jakub Smrz on the bike, the Czech rider ascended the timesheets continually over the two days, culminating in him setting the fastest time overall in the fourth and final session, placing him third on aggregate.

Given the early stages of this new venture, Smrz was thrilled to be up at the front almost immediately and is now feeling especially confident for the new season.

"We did a brilliant job, we improved session after session and set the fastest time in the last lap. We tried out different solutions set-up-wise until we found the one that allowed me to go fastest with race set-up.

“This makes me confident for the season start, in four days time but things will get serious on Friday when I hope to do well and score a good result.”

Big deal. All he has proven during his WSBK career is he can secure a fast lap time on sticky tires. His MO is always the same. He always qualifies near the top & then immediately proceeds to go backwards once the flag drops. He'll probably end up on the front row this weekend but finish outside the top 10.
