Kawasaki Motocard kicked off its 2010 World Supersport season in perfect style as it topped the first official practice session of the season with a 1-2 result.

While it cannot match Honda for sheer numbers this season, Kawasaki has nonetheless established itself as a reckoned force over the winter, with Joan Lascorz topping the timesheets during pre-season testing last week.

On this occasion, however, it was the Spaniard's experienced team-mate Katsuaki Fujiwara in charge, the Japanese rider setting his benchmark at the 15-minute mark and maintaining a tenth back to Lascorz.

While lap times were some way down on those achieved during testing, there remained a similar theme towards the front, with Kenan Sofuoglu and Eugene Laverty shadowing the ZX-6Rs in third and fourth, while Michele Pirro and Fabien Foret completed a familiar top six.

Indeed, half a second would split Foret in sixth and seventh place man Jason Di Salvo, although Triumph will be encouraged to see the American - racing at Phillip Island for the first time this weekend - assuming lead rider status over eighth place Chaz Davies.

Massimo Roccoli and Miguel Praia rounded out the top ten, ahead of Sebastian Charpentier and Robbin Harms, while British racer Gino Rea was 15th fastest having completed more laps than any other rider.
