Toseland shrugs off injury, will race at Portimao

The former champion says his fractured hand is healing well and won't be an issue for the upcoming WSBK round
James Toseland insists he will be back to full fitness for the second round of the World Superbike Championship in Portugal after injuring his hand at the Phillip Island opener.

The former champion suffered a fracture in his left hand during a free practice fall, Toseland going on to aggravate it further when a violent high-side in race one saw him land heavily on the hand again.

However, Toseland admits the amount of anaesthetic he had been given at that time meant he wasn't aware of the damage he had suffered, before adding he wouldn't have participated in the second race without it.

"I damaged it a bit more than I thought I did, and with all the anaesthetic I had on it over the race weekend and in the race itself I couldn't really feel what I had done to it. Without the anaesthetic I would not have been able to ride,” he said.

Nonetheless, the Yamaha Sterilgarda rider does not expect the injury to cause problems at the upcoming Portimao round, the former two-time champion maintaining he will be present and able to compete

"There was a fine crack in the third metacarpal bone of my hand, so it has taken a bit longer than I thought," said Toseland. "But it is getting better and it will be fine for Portugal anyway; no problem."

Following his fall in race one, Toseland finished tenth in the second race at Phillip Island.

I'm sorry, i know everyone is entitled to their opinion but this place is full of @rseholes sometimes. 1 - Both James and Cal have said the bike had problems with chatter pre season, they worked on it and it did get better for PI but still not perfect. 2 - The crash which highsided JT in Race 1 was an electrical gremlin which only made the injuries sustained worse. 3 - Name me one rider that has not crashed at some point in pre season / First round of the season? 4 - Cal Crutchlow, Rookie? I think not! He may not be as experienced as JT, but he is no rookie. 5 - JT was riding against docs advice in R2 with a badly busted hand. Give the lad a break!

C'mon JT, let's see you up at the sharp end, where you belong. Hopefully Yamaha have ironed out the gremlins that plagued them at Philip Island.
