Charpentier leaves WSS

Former double World Supersport champion Sebastien Charpentier has left the Triumph BE1 Racing team with immediate effect.

The Frenchman, second only to Kenan Sofuoglu on the all-time WSS win list, returned to action in 2010 after a two-year sabbatical.

However Charpentier, who enjoyed most of his success with the Ten Kate Honda squad, was a shadow of his former self at the Phillip Island season opener - where he finished a distant 13th, out of 15 riders to reach the flag.

To make matters worse, Charpentier was beaten by all three of his team-mates - David Salom (fourth), Jason Disalvo (eighth) and Chaz Davies (twelfth). Davies finished 48 seconds in front of Charpentier, who was almost a minute and a half behind winner Eugene Laverty.

"[Charpentier] has decided to withdraw from the championship after failing to demonstrate the pace which made him a two-time champion in the opening round of the season at Phillip Island in Australia," said a statement from the BE1 team.

Charpentier's place will be taken by countryman Matthieu Lagrive. The 30-year-old has 72 WSS starts under his belt, with two pole positions and a best finish of third place to his name.

Lagrive will experience the three-cylinder Daytona 675 for the first time when he tests alongside his team-mates at Valencia on Thursday. Lagrive will then make his race debut in round two of the 2010 World Supersport championship at Portimao, Portugal on March 28.
