A month on from his surprise victory for Althea Ducati during the opening round of the World Superbike Championship, Carlos Checa is hopeful the team can maintain its high standards during the second event in Portugal.

Checa pulled off a remarkable result at Phillip Island when he snatched victory from Leon Haslam on the final lap of the race, a victory that signalled his third in the Superbike category and a maiden triumph for the satellite Althea team.

The Spaniard is refusing to become complacent though as he turns his attentions to Portimao, a circuit that has formerly yielded a podium finish back in 2008.

"At Phillip Island we did a really great job, both during practices and the races, and after my victory the team's spirit soared and we are very positive about the future.

"The results I reached during last January's test session here in Portimao were not satisfactory because we did not use the right tyres.

"I particularly like the Portuguese circuit because of its ups and downs. The length of the main straight could be unfavorable for our bikes, but the mixed part of the track could be favorable. We are confident that we can find a good set-up for the race weekend and we'll work to increase our bike's top speed which is very important on this circuit."
