Max Biaggi is expecting things to remain 'tightly packed' right up to race day after slotting in with the fourth fastest time during provisional World Superbike qualifying in Valencia.
Arriving in Spain on the back of his double victory in Portugal, Biaggi is looking to maintain his strong form around the Ricardo Tormo circuit in order to close down the gap to Leon Haslam in the overall standings.
As the highest placed non-Ducati rider, first blood in his dual with Haslam has gone to the Italian, but with the Suzuki rider right behind him in fifth position, he admits the competition will remain close throughout the weekend.
"Valencia is a mixed-slow circuit with fairly low lap averages," the Aprilia rider said. "We need a bike which comes out of the turns quickly and perfect management of the output becomes fundamental. This is why two cylinders are at an advantage here because of their natural characteristics.
“We are more or less where we thought we'd be. Today I concentrated only on one bike and I think I'll also use the second one tomorrow to make a few changes which I already have in mind.
“We are not far off the leaders even if we are all tightly packed from the second place on. And it will be the same tomorrow as well. This is Valencia.”
