WSS: Laverty snatches pole from Lascorz

The Irishman will attempt to get his World Supersport title challenge back on track from pole position in Spain
Eugene Laverty has taken his second World Supersport pole position of the season in Valencia after a mighty last gasp effort saw him deny Joan Lascorz.

Lascorz looked almost certain to start his home race from the top spot after putting in a record-breaking lap of 1min 35.740secs, some three tenths faster than any of his rivals for almost the session's entirety.

However, having preferred to maintain a low profile over the course of the weekend in search of a decent race set-up, Laverty slipped in a 1min 35.658secs lap at the chequered flag, a tenth faster than Lascorz and two tenths under WSBK pole sitter Cal Crutchlow's best from 2009.

With Kenan Sofuoglu in third position, all three title contenders line-up alongside each other in Spain, although provisional pole sitter Katsuaki Fujiwara is likely to be a contending force from fourth position on the second Kawasaki.

David Salom will start fifth on the best of the four Triumphs, the British manufacturer no doubt encouraged to emerge just two tenths off third position, while Chaz Davies in sixth and Jason Di Salvo in ninth shows good strength in numbers for the BE1 Racing team.

Fabien Foret and Michele Pirro complete the second row in seventh and eighth, with Robbin Harms rounding out the top ten. British rider Gino Rea, who finished a fine eighth in Portugal, will line-up 12th in Spain.
