Lap times to drop at new Assen

Lap times will drop at Assen this weekend following subtle changes made to the circuit for 2010.

The legendary Dutch track is now a few metres shorter following modifications to make the Ruskenhoek chicane, at the end of the back straight, less angular. The result is a more flowing - and faster - layout.

“The revised corner is fast,” confirmed Ten Kate's WSBK star Jonathan Rea.

“They said that we might go 1.5sec faster [a lap]. In fact, I think we were something like three seconds faster!” commented Ten Kate's World Supersport rider Kenan Sofuoglu, eluding to some significant progress with the set-up of his CBR600RR.

“The new chicane is very fast, which is OK for me,” added Sofuoglu's team-mate Michele Pirro.

If everything goes well I'll be sitting in that very corner this Sunday. From what I've seen it's a bit of a return to the old Veenslang corner, which is pretty awesome. Though I'm not quite sure why they made the change (my best guess is for the cars), I'm all for it!
