Leon Camier claimed one of the day's more notable scalps during qualifying for the fourth World Superbike of the season at Assen by out-pacing Aprilia team-mate Max Biaggi.

Coming off the back of a fine performance at Valencia where he led a WSBK race for the first time, Camier shrugged off his lack of experience around the Dutch circuit to breeze into the Superpole shootout before securing fifth on the grid.

Comfortably his best qualifying performance at WSBK level, Camier was only marginally off a front row spot, while he will also start well ahead of 11th place team-mate Biaggi for the first time.

"I can't help but feel satisfied with fifth place on the grid. This is my best Superpole and it crowns a weekend which started off on the right foot. I learned the track, I've increased my feeling with the bike and I was able to get into the group of the best.

"I made fifth place with a race tyre, but I should point out that I didn't notice much of a difference compared to the soft tyres. No we need to improve our setup for the race in order to be consistently faster because there are quite a few riders with a good pace behind me. Tomorrow will be a long day.

"It will be important to start well and maintain a high pace in order to make a play for it down to the last lap."
