The results may have been somewhat mixed, but Leon Haslam still came away from the fourth round of the World Superbike Championship with a slightly increased lead in the overall standings.

With the points' system favouring those who reach the podium, Haslam's 11th and second place finishes would prove two points more lucrative than Max Biaggi's sixth and fourth, the Suzuki rider now commanding a 20 point lead heading to Monza.

The big mover, however, has undoubtedly been Jonathan Rea, the Ten Kate Honda rider's double victory at Assen launching him up the order into third position. Although he remains 38 points behind Haslam in the title race, it's worth noting that it was a 63 point deficit prior to the weekend...

Despite dropping a position, Carlos Checa remains strong in fourth having now scored half of his total 2009 tally in just eight races, while he is now a comfortable 18 points up on factory Ducati man Noriyuki Haga, who falls two places to sixth after a disappointing weekend.

With James Toseland up to fifth for Yamaha, it means five different manufacturers now fill the top five positions in the overall standings, while even seventh place Troy Corser on the BMW is not far from making it six in the top six.

It means the manufacturer championship is proving almost as competitive as the riders' series, with Suzuki holding firm by 14 points from Aprilia now, who leapfrog Italian counterparts Ducati in second. However, with Honda just 37 points behind and Yamaha making headway in fifth, this title fight is likely to go to the wire...
