WSS: Laverty remains fastest after Q1

The 2009 runner-up maintains his advantage over the competition following provisional Supersport qualifying at Monza
Eugene Laverty continues to hold onto the top spot following provisional qualifying for the fifth round of the World Supersport Championship at Monza.

The Irishman had been fastest during free practice, but while things were certainly much tighter around him as better track conditions prompted lap times to tumble, he still commanded a solid two tenth gap of the competition.

Surprisingly, his nearest rival would be David Salom, the Spaniard's increasingly eye-catching performances on the Triumph earning him second position overnight, even if the former WSBK rider would blot his copybook with a fall late on.

Championship leader Joan Lascorz was third quickest, edging out Kawasaki counterpart Fabien Foret, while Ten Kate Honda pair Kenan Sofuoglu and Michele Pirro followed closely in fifth and sixth.

Behind them, experienced racers Katsuaki Fujiwara and Matthieu Lagrive were seventh and eighth fastest, ahead of series returnee Gianluca Vizziello and Massimo Roccoli.

Further back, Chaz Davies endured a tough start to his weekend to end the opening day outside the top ten, while countryman Gino Rea was 13th fastest on the Intermoto Honda.

Maybe Kenan is trying a Laverty move and not showing his full deck, Wait Should it not be the Irish cub learning from the multiple blah blah blah champion (days when there were no Lascorz or Laverty to deal with)
