WSS: Pirro masters damp Monza

The Italian goes fastest in FP2 ahead of his home race at Monza
Michele Pirro was the dominant pace setter during the second World Supersport free practice session at Monza as he mastered the tricky conditions to lead the way by almost two seconds.

With a wet and slippery circuit greeting the riders at the start of the session, the emergence of a drier line allowed the fastest times to be set in the closing minutes with Pirro going top with a lap of 1min 54.920secs.

Although more than six seconds off the ultimate pace, Pirro was 1.8secs quicker than his closest rival, that being team-mate Kenan Sofuoglu.

A more unusual order emerged behind the Ten Kate Honda duo with privateer Alexander Lundh going third fastest on the Cresto Guide Honda, while Triumph's Matthieu Lagrive and Intermoto Honda's Gino Rea popped up inside the top five for the first time this year.

Championship leader Joan Lascorz led provisional pole sitter Eugene Laverty in sixth and seventh, ahead of Jason Di Salvo, Katsuaki Fujiwara and Miguel Praia.
