WSS: Laverty resists Lagrive for provisional pole

Laverty goes fastest once more at Kyalami, ahead of Lagrive and Sofuoglu.
Eugene Laverty has taken provisional pole position for the sixth round of the World Supersport Championship after resisting an impressive late charge by Matthieu Lagrive.

The Irishman sat on top with just under four minutes remaining when the red flags were deployed to clear up the debris from Lance Isaacs' stricken Honda, but while he wasn't able to improve when the session resumed, his lap time of 1min 41.363secs was enough to stay top.

Lagrive, however, was a rider to improve as he lifted the Triumph up into a fine second position, less than a tenth slower than Laverty, and ahead of Ten Kate Honda pairing of Kenan Sofuoglu and Michele Pirro.

Championship leader Joan Lascorz continued to maintain a watching brief in fifth, albeit a second slower than Laverty, while David Salom joined team-mate Lagrive in improving late on with a leap up to sixth positions.

Katsuaki Fujiwara was seventh, ahead of local pairing Ronan Quarmby and Isaacs, while Robbin Harms rounded out the top ten.

After a modest performance in free practice, both Chaz Davies and Gino Rea posted improvements in Q1, in 11th and 12th respectively.
