Toseland admits longevity conerns

A crocked Toseland makes huge gains between sessions to claim an unexpected second on the grid at Kyalami
James Toseland admits he is unsure how he will fare over two race distances at Kyalami after admitting to only conducting short runs so far this weekend to nurse his injuries.

Tosleand arrives in South Africa battered and bruised after being hospitalised by an accident at Monza less than a week ago, the former champion lumbered with a sore neck.

However, Toseland defied his discomfort during Superpole to snatch second position on the grid, a particularly impressive performance for a rider who went into the deciding session having been more than a second slower than his rivals throughout the free practice.

"I'm really happy with that result, especially after this morning's qualifying, I think we were two seconds faster this afternoon,” the Yamaha Sterilgarda rider said. “I've got a few people to thank! The Mobile Clinica guys and everyone at Monza hospital for their service last weekend, and all the riders who managed to avoid me going into turn one at the second Monza race.

“My head was a bit lost yesterday and this morning, which made me head in the wrong direction with the team, but they recalculated and we've come back, two seconds faster so a big thank you to them.”

Looking ahead to the races, Toseland confesses he is uncertain what he will be capable of during two 24 lap races, but he insists he will 'hang on until the end'

“I haven't done too many laps in one go here because of my neck, so I'm not sure how it's going to be over 24 laps but when the lights go out I'm going to hang on in there until the end!"
