Carlos Checa, probably the most vocal rider in terms of complaints that the Ducati twins are 'inferior' to the four-cylinders, will get his wish following the news that the twins will race 3kg lighter from the next round in America.

The rule change - prompted by the results of the 'points averaging' system designed to balance the performance of twins vs. the four cylinders - comes despite the Spaniard finishing second to fellow 1198 rider Michel Fabrizio in race one at Kyalami on Sunday, then just 1.4sec from victory, albeit in fifth place, in race two.

"The races took place on a difficult circuit", said the Althea Ducati rider. "In race two I wasn't immediately able to find grip and the four-cylinders started to get away. It's difficult to catch those guys because in acceleration they have the advantage.

"In race one on the other hand everything went well, and with good grip we were able to make up some points to Haslam. My performance was the same in both races but the position was different.

"We need to improve in our acceleration and hope that the regulation gives us a hand in this respect," he said, speaking just prior to the announcement of the rule change. "It's evident that our bikes are inferior and we hope a solution can be found. However it was overall a positive weekend."

Checa remains the leading Ducati rider in the world championship, holding joint third with Honda's Jonathan Rea, but 81 points behind Suzuki's Leon Haslam.
