WSS: Laverty takes provisional Miller pole

The Irishman goes faster than Joan Lascorz's fastest lap from 2009 as he singles himself out as the man to beat at Miller Motorsports Park
Eugene Laverty signalled his intentions to retake the lead of the World Supersport standings this weekend as he broke the Miller Motorsports Park lap record on the way to provisional pole position.

The Irishman, who arrives in the United States just one point off the overall lead, was in excellent form throughout the session, breaking the 1min 52secs marker with ten minutes remaining before going faster again shortly afterwards to dip below Joan Lascorz's previous best marker from qualifying twelve months ago.

The Spaniard was second fastest, albeit six tenths slower than Laverty, while his countryman David Salom was a fine third on the Triumph to make it three different manufacturers inside the top three.

Fabien Foret was also in good form as he topped the timesheets for a large portion of the session, the Frenchman eventually settling for a provisional fourth.

Robbin Harms was a notable fifth on his eponymous Honda, the Dane even out pacing last year's winner Kenan Sofuoglu despite ending his day early with a technical issue.

Having impressed in free practice, Jason Di Salvo maintained a top ten position in seventh, ahead of team-mate Chaz Davies, Michele Pirro and Katsuaki Fujiwara.
