Biaggi sets fierce straight-line pace

Biaggi hits 311kph down the straight, 18kph more than Checa, but he cannot touch the Spaniard through the bends.
Despite falling four tenths short of Carlos Checa's pole position at Miller Motorsports Park, Max Biaggi has reason to feel confident after once again showing the raw pace of his Aprilia.

The Italian hinted at his speed during the knockout phases as he set a new lap record during SP2, but had no answer to Checa's effort when it mattered.

What was evident from the final results, however, was Biaggi's sheer advantage over Checa in a straight line, the Aprilia touching 311kph, while the Althea Ducati could only manage 293.6kph.

With this in mind, Biaggi is hoping he can tweak the set-up of his RSV-4 to harness that power and hold sway through the bends.

“I think we have been in a good pace since day one and we have found a way to work better with one bike than the other, in chassis and set-up of the suspension.

"We have found a good way in Superpole and we will start from the front row, which is important.”

@ Dray Forced into MotoGP? I think that's a bit much. Aprilia built an awesome bike. Just like Honda did with the RC45 and Yamaha did with the R7 for WSB. They were specially made bikes to be homologated for racing. Same with that God-forsaken Petronas FP1. Just because the RSV4 is kicking every factory's ass in just 1 season doesn't mean they should be forced to do anything but keep winning in WSB. It's a production bike, not a prototype GP racer worth millions and millions of dollars. I asked Biaggi the same question face-to-face and he said that everyone should just tip their hats to Aprilia instead of complaining about an awesome product.

My hat is certainly off to Aprilia. The RSV4 is in my opinion the bike to have. The only thing I hope is that the Aprilia V-4 will prod other manufacturers to come out with a V-4. Props to Aprilia, not dobut. I mean you come out with a bike that is cooler than the Ducati ??? That is saying something. They have for sure put pressure on the other guys to step up or get left in the dust. Be nice to see most sport bikes with the level of suspension adjustment become pretty much a standard in the industry. Not to mention the sound of a high revving V-4 with all the trick parts you would normally have to go out and buy be part of the package. :p
