Regis Laconi has made a surprise return to World Superbike test action as part of the 'World Ducati Week' exhibition at Misano.

The Frenchman has not raced competitively since suffering life-threatening injuries in a practice accident at Kyalami last season, Laconi hospitalised for almost a month after being placed into an induced coma.

Although he tested for DFX Ducati at the end of the 2009 season, Laconi, who suffered two seriously cracked vertebrae, has been expected to call time on his motorcycling career as a result of the injuries.

Nonetheless, the popular rider is getting his chance in the spotlight by testing for the Italian team at World Ducati Week, a weekend of events which include sessions reserved for Ducati's World Superbike entries.

There is no word on whether the outing could act as possible prelude to a potential return for Laconi at DFX, which has run with Lorenzo Lanzi so far this season.

Also in attendance at Misano will be former champion Troy Bayliss, who will ride the Xerox Ducati alongside Noriyuki Haga and Michel Fabrizio.
