WSS: Laverty rides new Silverstone

The World Supersport title chaser samples the new Silverstone layout for the first time, just over a month before he races there.
Eugene Laverty got a head-start on his World Supersport Championship rivals ahead of the British round of the series with a days testing at the newly configured Silverstone.

The Irishman, currently second in the WSS standings behind Kenan Sofuoglu, joined a track day to get better acquainted with the revised circuit, which will host MotoGP and Formula 1 before World Superbike/Supersport gets its chance.

Paying particular attention to the Arena layout, which is all-new for 2010, Laverty is confident it will promote exciting racing when the series arrives on August 1st.

The new Silverstone is a very good track, I like it, the Parkalgar Honda rider said. The weather was tricky this morning but as I learnt the track and it dried out I started to enjoy it. The last two sessions were great as it dried and many of the other riders in the group had gone home so it was clear for us to do our thing.

The new Arena section is great, sweeping from one side of the circuit to the other, thatll be a great place to watch for spectators. Its a long lap but we have managed to find a gearing that will be close and I know my way around now, its been a good day.

Good to see Philip Marron on screen for a change, Eugene,s chief mechanic and the man behind the chassis set-up. For some reason he seems to take a back seat when it comes to praise and podiums.
