Rea laments 'worst qualifying of career'

Rea starts down in 16th position as Ten Kate Honda continue to struggle with grip woes
Jonathan Rea says he will need to 'show what he is made of' if he is to turn his 16th place grid position at Misano into two good results.

The Northern Irishman, who won his first World Superbike race around the Italian circuit last season, has struggled for grip on the Ten Kate Honda throughout the weekend.

Unable to break into the top fifteen during free practice, while Rea progressed to SP2 – unlike team-mate Max Neukirchner -, he could manage no better than 16th once there.

Cursing it as the 'worst' qualifying performance of his career, Rea is hoping to call upon his racing determination to fight his way back to the front during the races.

It's difficult to know what to say after what is probably the worst qualifying performance of my career. Actually, we made a wee bit of progress by going slightly harder at the front today, but it was nowhere near enough to make the jump to the guys at the front.

“Our backs are against the wall really, and I'll just have to show what I'm made of tomorrow and ride the wheels of the bike for 24 laps. Twice! To get anything like some good results, I'll need to make a blinding start and rely on other people's mistakes but, as ever, we'll give it a good go.”
