Eugene Laverty has admitted he needs a good result at Silverstone this weekend if he is to have any chance of winning the 2010 World Supersport Championship.

The Irishman dropped 22 points behind Kenan Sofuoglu in the overall standings at Brno after a technical problem forced him to retire whilst battling for the lead.

With four races remaining, Laverty says he has to get his head down and focus on winning and not rely on Sofuoglu - who has finished every race this season - on hitting problems.

"I am hoping for a better result at Silverstone, I need a good home run," said the Irishman, who has won five races this season. "All I can do now is win races and close the gap on Kenan and Joan. There's not much in it and I will be giving it my all this weekend."

The home event for Performance Technical Racing, the team will expand to run a third bike this weekend for former British Supermoto champion Christian Iddon.

One of several wild-card riders to race at Silverstone this weekend, PTR team manager Simon Buckmaster does not underestimate Iddon's task this weekend, but is happy to welcome him to the outfit.

"We welcome Christian to the team for his home round and will do all we can to get him into the points, although that will not be easy with a strong line-up of British wild-card riders joining the regulars on the grid. It is a big opportunity for him to show what he can do.

"Eugene needs to win and Miguel is on great form, the weekend is as simple as that for us. The British fans are very supportive of us and I hope they get behind us again this weekend."
