Eugene Laverty, Kenan Sofuoglu and Joan Lascorz head into the tenth round of the World Supersport Championship at Silverstone evenly matched after qualifying within four hundredths of one another.
At odds with the sheer length of the circuit, Laverty held onto his provisional pole position to claim the top spot over Sofuoglu by a mere three hundredths of a second, but with Lascorz only a further five thousandths further back, the competition remains close.
A tight qualifying session all round, a Yamaha will start on the front row for the first time this season as Roberto Tamburini – competing in only his second WSS race this season – was a fine fourth on the privateer YZF-R6.
Having run as high as third towards the end of the session, WSS veteran Robbin Harms just missed out on the chance to qualify on the front row in fifth position, marginally ahead of Gino Rea, the Intermoto Czech Honda rider unable to maintain his provisional second position as he starts sixth for his home event.
Katsuaki Fujiwara and Rea's team-mate Massimo Roccoli complete the second row, ahead of a trio of Triumphs, led by Chaz Davies and followed by David Salom and Matthieu Lagrive.
Elsewhere, Alex Lowes emerged as the best of the wild-card contingent on the Seton Interceptor Yamaha, marginally ahead of James Westmoreland, Billy McConnell and his brother Sam Lowes.
