WSS: Laverty targets necessary victory

Eugene Laverty sets his sights on getting back to winning ways at Silverstone after qualifying on pole position for the World Supersport race.
Eugene Laverty is confident he can turn his World Supersport pole position into a win at Silverstone, despite the closeness of the times following qualifying.

All three title contenders qualified within four hundredths of one another, with Laverty edging out Kenan Sofuoglu and Joan Lascorz, while fourth place Roberto Tamburini is only a tenth further back on his privateer Yamaha.

Nonetheless, the Irishman insists mistakes on his final two efforts prevented him to establishing a more substantial lead at the front, while he believes his race set-up should make him the man to beat come the race.

“There is not much in it at the front of the grid. I am happy to get a pole position here at the team's second home round after Parkalgar in Portugal – especially as I made mistakes on my last two-laps. The difference in lap times from using a worn to a new tyre is very little; I can do similar lap times on either. I think we are in a good position, our race set-up is strong.”

For fans wanting to get up close and personal with Laverty, the Parkalgar Honda rider will be available for an autograph session immediately after the race at the George White stand behind the start-finish straight grandstand.
