WSS: Laverty savours last lap Silverstone win

Eugene Laverty hopes his necessary last lap pass on Kenan Sofuoglu will set the tone for his World Supersport title chances over the final few races.
Eugene Laverty is hoping his last lap pass over Kenan Sofuoglu on the way to World Supersport victory at Silverstone will give him the edge in the remaining three rounds of the season.

Laverty pulled off a thrilling WSS victory over Sofuoglu after a determined last lap effort saw him nose ahead of the Turk with just a few corners of the race remaining.

An important win for the Irishman having lost crucial ground to Sofuoglu with his retirement in Brno, Laverty remains 17 points adrift of his rival meaning Sofuoglu can afford to finish second to Laverty in the remaining three races and still win the title.

Nonetheless, with Sofuoglu having developed a reputation for late race charges, Laverty is hoping his Silverstone success will play on his mind in the coming races.

“It is nice to win our home race and it was a tough one,” he said. “My plan had to change several times through the race. First I made a break but then Kenan put in some quick laps and then I decided to drop back and see where he was weak.

“I spotted his weak areas but he could have been sandbagging so I passed him again on the last lap with plenty of corners to spare and found that he really was weaker and not pretending. It is especially nice to beat Kenan in this sort of race because he is not used to losing this sort of fight and that makes it an important psychological win.

“My Parkalgar Honda was brilliant, we ran faster lap times than I expected and it was the best bike on the day.”

It was only home race for Laverty and great move on Kenan. That was it. The remaining story will be told after 3 races at all. A dream is something like a pie but reality is just there standing. It is clear that Kenan is closer than Laverty for championship. Laverty must win all the races and pray for Kenan' s point lost otherwise it is all gone!... You guys, Even if you don' t like a racer, at least you should learn to respect as a fair fan!...
