Tom Sykes has been given his first taste of the new Kawasaki ZX-10R after being flown out to Japan to undergo testing of the forthcoming machine.

The Briton visited Kawasaki's test venue at Autopolis with the manufacturer's World Supersport team manager Pere Riba to rack up miles on the much anticipated bike in the absence of the injured Chris Vermeulen.

Revealed via the manufacturer's Twitter page, Sykes carried out back-to-back tests, with the team claiming the new machine is already posting faster straight-line speeds than its predecessor.

A busy week for Sykes following his World Superbike outing at Silverstone, he is back in action again this weekend as a British Superbike wild-card at Brands Hatch.

Earlier this week, Sykes admitted he is unsure whether he is being factored into Kawasaki's plans for the future following reports linking Noriyuki Haga and Joan Lascorz to the ride alongside Vermeulen for 2011.
