Guintoli keen to end season with podium

The Frenchman has scored in every single race this season - only Max Biaggi can match that feat.
Sylvain Guintoli says he will head into the final three rounds of the 2010 World Superbike season with the intention of getting onto the podium for the first time.

The Frenchman began his full-time WSBK career in style with a run to fourth position at the Phillip Island season opener, but it took him until the ninth round at Brno for him to repeat that feat.

Still, while he is yet to scale the podium, Guintoli can take pride in the fact he has been a model of consistency, the Suzuki Alstare rider scoring in every single race this year to keep him in contention for a top ten finish in the overall standings.

Even so, while he is currently positioned 11th overall, Guintoli told Crash.net that it is his linear progress, rather than his final result, that will ultimately define his season.

“Finishing ninth or seventh in the championship is a bit crap,” he joked. “It doesn't really matter. What is important to me is to show that I am progressing and doing well with this bike. Hopefully, I'd like to get on the podium because I have been close a few times.

“We had a very good start to the season and then we had some more difficult times. We've always been there or thereabouts though and it's going a lot better now. The pace is back and the fun is back – everything is falling into place a lot better.

“I suppose I have been scoring every time because when I feel like I can't do it, I won't push it. I've been doing a lot of learning about Superbikes, this bike and this team – it has been interesting so far.”

Despite being 11th in the standings, Guintoli remains just 37 points of fifth position overall.

He had some problems in the first half of the year but there's very little between him and Haslam now (Silverstone race one, when he chose a different tyre, being an exception). In fact, I think he's beaten Leon in four of the last eight races. And only he and Biaggi have scored in every round.

Guinters is doing a good job in a very competitive championship! Tho people like sykes did have done this in the past, being consistent and doing a good job in there rookie year finshing in the top 10 of the championship. Tho still got let off, overshadowed by spies. And in guinters case it could be argued haslam has overshadowed him a tad, espeically with guinters pedigree from his motogp days. I hope guinters keeps his ride, and if he does i guess he should count himself a bit lucky tho.
