Eugene Laverty continued to keep the pressure on Kenan Sofuoglu in the fight for the World Supersport title as he snatched pole position for round eleven at the Nurburgring.
The Irishman must win each of the final three races – and hope that Sofuoglu finishes lower than second – to be crowned the 2010 champion, but while it was the Turk that held the advantage after Q1, Laverty struck back in Q2.
Finishing a tenth up on his fellow Honda rider, the pair will start alongside each other around the German circuit, where Laverty will no doubt hope his Kawasaki rivals can get into the mix.
Indeed, it was a particularly encouraging performance for Broc Parkes, who will start an excellent third on his return to the Supersport category this weekend – his first with Kawasaki. Furthermore, his team-mate Katsuaki Fujiwara is also a threat to the top two in fourth position having shown consistent form all weekend.
On row two, Gino Rea qualified in fifth place, ahead of David Salom, who failed to build on the lap that almost gave him provisional pole position overnight. Nonetheless, he still starts as the top Triumph rider.
Fabien Foret and Michele Pirro complete the second row, while Massimo Roccoli and Mark Aitchison round out the top ten.
Elsewhere, Chaz Davies will begin the race from a lowly 16th after suffering technical problems on the Daytona 675.
