At the time where he is still looking for a World Superbike ride in 2011, James Toseland suffered his worst event of the season at Imola with a double DNF.

The Briton, already on the back foot after qualifying down in 17th position, made good strides at the start of both races as he quickly moved into the top ten.

However, neither race would last longer than eight laps as he suffered a mechanical problem in race one, before falling in the second encounter, a double DNF that puts him under pressure in the battle for a top ten finish overall.

"After the warm up this morning I felt really confident," he said. "The Yamaha team worked really hard overnight last night and the bike I had today felt really good. Unfortunately we had a technical issue in race one when I felt I could have challenged for the podium."

Toseland remains seventh in the overall standings, but is now just 22 points ahead of tenth place Troy Corser.

"Once again in race two I fought hard in the early stages and had the pace to go for the podium. It just seems that luck isn't with me at the moment but I'm going to try and win a race in Magny Cours as it's a place that's always bought me luck."
