Rea unsure if he can ride

Hannspree Ten Kate Honda's Jonathan Rea is waiting until the morning of the first practice session to see if he is fit to ride in the final World Superbike Championship round of the year at Magny-Cours this weekend.

Rea had to miss the races in Italy last weekend after suffering small fractures to his left collarbone and the scaphoid in his left wrist. But he hopes to be fit enough to ride in France, to ensure he retains third place in the championship rankings.

Double winner in Imola, Carlos Checa, is now only 14 points behind Rea. However, the Ulsterman doesn't want to risk his chances of a 2011 title fight.

"It is too early to say if I can ride at Magny-Cours, but I will wait until just before the [weekend] to make a final decision," he said.

"It is more important for the team that I start testing for next year free of injury and with no niggling physical problems, so we will see how things are."

"It is more important for the team that I start testing for next year free of injury" Exactly. So why risk it? The collarbone fracture is a crack rather than a break, but it's going to be painful and leave him weakened on that side. And another impact risks breaking it more severely. Same with the scaphoid. TK should be stowing the bike away for this season and making sure JR goes into next year healthy and strong. Too big a risk for the sake of a few points I would have thought. Is 3rd or 4th in the table that critical?

Dont risk it Rea. You have nothing to prove and already have a contract in your hand. Although it would be great to see you back on the bike for the season finale, it would be a bit of a risk if you are not 100% and could jeopardise testing and preparing for 2011. Not a wise move in my opinion.
