Katsuaki Fujiwara provided a small upset to proceedings as he claimed provisional pole position for the 13th and final round of the 2010 World Supersport Championship at Magny-Cours.
The Supersport veteran – who has not managed a WSS pole position since 2003 – led a close session as he bettered his closest rival by less than a tenth aboard his Motocard.com Kawasaki ZX-6R.
Of more interest, however, was Kenan Sofuoglu in second position, while his sole title rival Eugene Laverty was only fifth fastest, behind local favourite Fabien Foret on the Lorenzini Kawasaki and David Salom on the best of the Triumph entries.
Gino Rea was sixth fastest as he looks to bring his superb rookie season to a strong close, ahead of Imola winner Michele Pirro, Broc Parkes, Massimo Roccoli and WSS debutant Florian Marino, the Frenchman getting a ride out on a Honda run by the Ten Kate Junior team.
Further back, Chaz Davies was somewhat off the pace in 16th, ahead of Miguel Praia, who suffered a fall late on.
