WSS: Parkes secures full-time Kawasaki ride

Kawasaki confirms Broc Parkes will ride the ZX-6R in 2011 in place of the World Superbike-bound Lascorz; Fujiwara will return to Japan.
Broc Parkes will make a full-time return to the World Supersport Championship in 2011 after extending his agreement with the Provec Kawasaki team.

The Australian returned to the Supersport series after a season and a half on the World Superbike stage at the Nurburgring, the former WSS runner-up marking his debut aboard the ZX-6R with a third place finish in Germany.

He will now embark on two seasons with the Spanish-run team as the replacement for erstwhile title contender Joan Lascorz, who team manager Guim Roda confirms will compete in World Superbikes next season.

“As soon as we knew Broc was free we didn't doubt for a minute to sign him for 2011 and 2012," Roda said. "He is a good rider and a great person. For us, we began the winter tests with Broc in the last three races of 2010.”

Parkes's team-mate, however, is yet to be decided after Kawasaki confirmed Katsuaki Fujiwara will return to race in Japan next season. The WSS veteran – who has raced with Kawasaki in the series since 2008 – will also assume test rider duties at Superbike and Supersport level.

“Regarding Fujiwara, we agree with the Kawasaki decision to offer Kats the possibility to be the next test rider for KHI. It is a big opportunity for him to be near his family and son in Japan, and fight for new goals after many years in the WSS Championship.

“Lascorz will go to WSBK, so we need a second rider. Regarding this, we are already talking with other riders. The important point is to decide on whether to take a young rider or a more experienced one, and after that we will try to make an agreement.

“Sure, it will not be easy because there's other good teams too, but we will find the best option for us and try to make a decision on Monday after the race.”
