Laverty 'excited' for WSBK bow

Eugene Laverty expresses his excitement for his World Superbike bow this weekend as he wraps up pre-season testing in Australia.
Eugene Laverty says it will be the 'smart guys' that will emerge on top at the end of the opening World Superbike round at Phillip Island this weekend, as he used the two-day pre-season test around the circuit to concentrate on race set-up.

The Irishman will make his WSBK race debut with Yamaha at the Australian venue this weekend, but is already tipped to be a front runner following a series of strong performances in testing.

Well matched with his MotoGP race-winning team-mate Marco Melandri, Laverty maintained a fairly low profile during the final test outing at Phillip Island as he focused on establishing a good race set-up for the weekend.

Ending up in ninth position overall, Laverty is confident his approach will pay dividends when the points are handed out at the end of the Sunday's races.

“It's been a tough test but we're making progress bit by bit. We're focusing on consistency for the races, that's been the focus since we started the test. We've found that now and all we need is a little bit more pace.

“I'm excited about the race, it's a strange track like no other and requires a unique set up. I think it's going to be the smart guys who are there at the end of the race.”

Steady Omar... Laverty IS widely accepted as a very intelligent rider, in his approach, and few would argue against that factually He's also one of the most normal people that rides at the front, at that level....and he'd be disappointed if he were to come across as you have chosen to see him Sunday evening will tell its own story for him, and everyone else

"dusty tracks" - nail on head Having known Norge since he raced 60cc motocross bikes I can confirm he is indeed one of the most genuine, decent people I know He is intelligent (both on the track and off it - one of his main strenghts IMO) and has an unbelieveable work ethic - he trains religously (I have witnessed this personally) Norge wont disgrace himself - remember essentially this is his rookie year (superbike) and when he finds his feet will be a force to be reckoned with
