Leon Haslam insists he has plenty to be encouraged by following the two-day World Superbike test at Phillip Island, despite suffering two falls and finishing outside the top ten overall.

The 2010 runner-up is getting ready for his first race with BMW this weekend, but while he would emerge as the best of the manufacturer's four riders, he was still classified a modest 14th overall.

However, Haslam points out he was faster in the generally slower Tuesday afternoon session, hinting that he is beginning to make good progress.

"We had a few issues to resolve over the course of the two day test," he said. "In the morning I lost the front of the bike twice and crashed. We have made some progress with the electronics which has helped a lot.

"The lap times in the afternoon were slower for everybody but even so we seem to have made some improvement. While I was way off the pace in the morning, I was only six tenths of a second in the afternoon."
