Haslam: I know Donington like back of my hand

The Briton is experienced around Donington Park, particularly in potentially adverse weather conditions.
Leon Haslam is hoping BMW will be ready to make the 'next step forward' with its bike in order to improve his chances of success on home ground at Donington Park.

The 2010 World Superbike runner-up grew up competing around the Leicestershire circuit, while the fact his father Ron runs a racing school at the venue means Haslam is likely to have completed more laps at Donington Park than any of his rivals.

Scoring a fine podium finish for satellite operation Stiggy Honda two years ago – the last time Donington Park featured on the WSBK calendar -, Haslam heads to the circuit this season keen to take advantage of the factory BMW machinery beneath him.

A podium finisher on his debut for the team at Phillip Island, while Haslam hints there are improvements still to be made, his personal experience of the circuit could counteract that.

“Racing in England any time of the year is a great occasion for both the British fans and myself, so for sure I can't wait to be back at Donington. The weather conditions in the UK are not always in our favour but the track is only 20 minutes from my house and I have a lot of support in that area.

“This track requires extremely hard braking. Actually, when it comes to braking, Donington is one of a kind. I have completed countless laps there in the past – including on production bikes. I know this circuit like the back of my hand so I really am looking forward it and I hope we can make that next step forward with the bike and continue to push at the front.”

Small correction.. Ron Haslam Race School is based out of Silverstone not donington. When it all went Pete Tong over the F1 deal they moved the school to silverstone. Unless they moved back this year???
