Marco Melandri heads to the second round of the World Superbike Championship at Donington Park eager to replicate Yamaha's superb recent form on British soil.
Doubles for Ben Spies at Donington in 2009 and for Cal Crutchlow in 2010 at Silverstone mean Yamaha has established an unbeaten streak heading into this year's 'European' round of the World Superbike Championship, with Melandri looking to extend it.
The Italian was in impressive form aboard the R1 on his WSBK debut at Phillip Island, scoring a fine podium finish, while Donington Park is another circuit he knows well from his days in MotoGP.
“I'm feeling good and very happy to be getting back on my bike this weekend, one month with no riding seems very long,” he said.
“Donington has always been a good track for me, I had good races there in MotoGP and I think our bike will work well. My only concern is the weather, I'm hoping for some sunshine as I still haven't had much experience on the Pirelli wet tyres.”
Melandri scored a win at Donington Park on his way to the 250cc title in 2002, while his best finish on MotoGP machinery around the Leicestershire circuit was third in 2006.
