Melandri ready for Superpole

Marco Melandri shows his Phillip Island form was no fluke as he goes second fastest behind Max Biaggi in Q1 at Donington Park.
Marco Melandri continued to do a good impression of a seasoned World Superbike contender at Donington Park as he emerged as a front runner from the off during free practice.

Fresh from his run to the podium at Phillip Island, Melandri was second fastest in both FP1 and Q1 by a slight margin, putting him in high spirits for the remainder of the weekend.

Insisting he back to full fitness and gaining in confidence aboard the Yamaha R1, Malandri says he is now looking forward to Superpole.

“It was a very positive first day, the bike's basic set up is good and that's a good sign, so overall I'm very happy,” he said. “I feel much better physically and I've become more confident on the bike.

“We have to decide what race tyres to use as the temperature of the asphalt changes from the morning to the evening and therefore it's not easy to decide. The team is working very hard to be ready for everything so let's see what happens tomorrow and let's hope for a good Superpole. I'm looking forward to it!”
