Haslam eyeing first BMW victory

Leon Haslam is setting his sights on victory at Donington Park after qualifying his BMW on the front row in second position.
Leon Haslam is confident this weekend will herald the first World Superbike Championship win for BMW after claiming second position on the grid at Donington Park.

The local rider missed out on overhauling Carlos Checa by three tenths in Superpole, but having proven a front runner in each of the sessions leading to qualifying, he is certain he has the bike to be equally competitive over a long distance.

Indeed, while he is hoping the rain stays away, Haslam believes he is in a good position to claim both a popular home win, but also a maiden victory in World Superbikes for BMW.

“I am really looking forward to the races now,” he said. “We wanted a front row start and we have got that. We definitely made good progress from Australia to this event. Hopefully it is a dry day, and I will try to beat the others this time.

“In a race anything can happen, but we are making steps in the right direction. If we can get a good start and have consistent races, we will be in with a good shot.”
