Veneman to make WSBK debut at Assen

BMW Italia will return to full strength at Assen with Barry Veneman getting a long-awaited WSBK chance in place of James Toseland.
Barry Veneman will make his World Superbike Championship debut at his home round of Assen after being tapped as the replacement for James Toseland at BMW Italia.

The Dutchman was seen as the logical choice for the newly-formed Superbike team having acted as a test rider for the factory BMW Motorrad and competed for the manufacturer in the German-based IDM Superbike series.

Though this will be Veneman's first appearance in World Superbikes, he is an experienced competitor at international level having made 64 starts in the World Supersport Championship.

Veneman finished fifth overall during his first season of Superbike racing with BMW Team Alpha-Von Zon, appropriately winning both races at Assen. He also finished second at the circuit during a guest ONK Dutch Superbike outing last weekend.

The last Dutch rider to compete in WSBK was Arie Vos, who raced as a wild-card at Assen in 2008.
