Max Biaggi heads to the sixth round of the 2011 World Superbike Championship at Misano seeking his first victories of the season as he bids to close down Carlos Checa's substantial series lead.
Biaggi suffered his first crash-related DNF since Portimao 2008 when he collided with Jonathan Rea during the opening race at Miller Motorsports Park, an accident that prompted some fierce words to be traded in the media afterwards as to whom was at fault.
Indeed, Biaggi says he has been left with 'aches and pains' from the accident, particularly his ribs, but insists it will not harm his participation on home soil at Misano.
"It's true... unfortunately I came away from Miller with one more race gone and quite a few blows. After the crash, Rea's bike hit me rather hard. I was able to finish race two but at the end of the day I was really exhausted.”
The scene of a double victory in 2010, the Aprilia Alitalia rider is now looking to get back on top of the podium having been left win-less so far this year.
“Despite all that I want to do well at Misano. It's a track that I like and where we have ridden well, since it is our 2011 test track. It won't be easy to repeat the double win from last year, but a positive result would be truly important for our championship. The support from a lot of Italian supporters will undoubtedly help me forget my aches and pains.”
Biaggi remains third in the standings, one point behind second place Marco Melandri, but 61 points behind Checa.
