Marco Melandri heads to the eighth round of the 2011 World Superbike Championship feeling as though he has his 'confidence back' following his fine performance at Motorland Aragon.
A maiden WSBK pole position led to a win and a second for the Italian in Spain, Melandri strengthening his third place in the overall standings, even if he remains 66 points off series leader Carlos Checa.
Nonetheless, like Misano and Aragon beforehand, Brno is a circuit that Melandri knows very well from his time at grand prix level. Though his best 500cc/MotoGP results at the Czech venue were limited to a fifth place finish in 2006, he has won there at 125 and 250GP level.
Indeed, Melandri is confident the R1 will perform well around the undulating circuit and is hopeful he can claw back some ground to Checa and Max Biaggi ahead.
"Brno is a track that I really like and I'm glad to be going there this week. This is a good moment for me, after encountering a few difficult tracks. I got my confidence back in Aragon and had a great weekend. I think Brno is a suitable track for my Yamaha R1 and I'm pretty sure that I can do well there again.
“It's a track where I have managed to pocket some good results even in very difficult circumstances in the GP and I've also come away victorious in 125cc and 250 cc."
