Alex Lowes to get second WSBK outing

After a solid World Superbike debut with Castrol Honda at Brno, Alex Lowes will once again take to the bike on home soil at Silverstone in place of the still-injured Jonathan Rea.
Alex Lowes will get a second opportunity to race in the World Superbike Championship after Jonathan Rea confirmed he won't be fit in time for the upcoming Silverstone event.

Lowes made his WSBK debut with Castrol Honda at Brno, the youngster claiming a 15th place finish on his debut and comparing favourably with experienced team-mate Ruben Xaus.

Though originally expected to be a one-off outing for Lowes, who races the MSS Colchester Kawasaki in the British Superbike Championship, he was always on standby for Rea in the event he could not compete at Silverstone in just over a week's time.

However, with Rea only having had the pins in his wrist taken out yesterday [Wednesday], Lowes will be on the bike again, this time competing in front of his home crowd.

“It's been quite an amazing year for me and I'm really looking forward to riding the Castrol Honda at Silverstone. It will only be my second outing on the CBR, so I've still got a lot to learn, but the chance to ride with this team on this bike in front of a home crowd is one that I never dreamed would be possible.

“I know that Jonathan has had some good results at Silverstone so I'll be trying my hardest to give the crowd something to cheer about next weekend.”

Though Rea, who scored a pair of second place finishes behind Cal Crutchlow last season, is disappointed to skip his home round, he will nonetheless be present to support his team.

“I'm so disappointed not to be racing at Silverstone, especially after going to the opening of the amazing new Wing complex in May. But I just got the pins out of my wrist this week, so I need a few weeks of training and physio before I can ride again. I've got a great support network around me, so I'll be working as hard as I can with the guys to get back as soon as possible.

“Of course, it's always good to race in front of your home fans and the Silverstone crowd is always very vocal and enthusiastic. At least I'll have the chance to say hello to some of them as I'll be around most of the weekend working with Castrol and Honda.”
