Sykes frustrated to miss home races

Tom Sykes is frustrated to miss his home races after injuring his ankle in an accident on the Saturday.
Tom Sykes says he is still waiting full confirmation that he has damaged ligaments in his ankle after being forced to skip his home World Superbike races at Silverstone.

The Kawasaki rider fell heavily during the Superpole-preceding FP2 session and injured his ankle, the Briton revealing that he has chipped the bone.

However, while he was originally hoping to make it out for the races, a further scan suggests there could be damage to ligaments, as well as the bone, forcing him to decide against racing.

Sykes, who had been due to wild-card at the British Superbike round at Brands Hatch next weekend, will now wait until he sees a specialist before deciding whether to compete there.

“I woke up feeling like I had been run over by a bus and because we do not want to cause any further potential damage to my ankle we decided not to race. I also have a lot of pain and stiffness in my neck, back and shoulders.

“After qualifying on the fourth row because I could not make it into Superpole, I was not going to get anything too much out of this weekend, and the risk was a little too much. I do not want to speculate on my ankle injury until I see a specialist.”
