It's difficult to argue against anyone other than Carlos Checa as being deserving of 'rider of the day' at Silverstone, but the tenth round of the World Superbike Championship certainly threw up its fair share of impressive rides down the field.

Coolly dismissing his rivals on the way to two comfortable victories, Checa's 2011 victory tally reached double figures at Silverstone and has moved him well clear in the overall standings.

Behind him, Eugene Laverty was a fine double podium winner, the Irishman - who it is easy to forget is still a WSBK rookie - unable to match Checa but easily having the measure of those behind.

Marco Melandri filled third place in both races after another typically dogged performance, while Leon Haslam and Max Biaggi shared a fourth apiece after fighting rides on their respective BMW and Aprilia machines.

Though not the highest-placed rider at the end of the weekend, Leon Camier was certainly the unluckiest with electrical problems ruining his hopes of a podium finish. Even so, he did show strong pace throughout the weekend - and stayed upright too.

While the final results weren't what many had expected, John Hopkins's remarkable pole position aboard the wild-card Samsung Crescent Suzuki certainly deserves recognition, while Sylvain Guintoli should also be praised for his pair of sixth place finishes having ended the opening lap of both races well outside the top ten.

Away from the obvious, Mark Aitchison was impressive on the unheralded Pedercini Kawasaki, while Maxime Berger had flashes of brilliance over the weekend too.

In the Supersport class, Chaz Davies showed remarkable race craft to turnaround what had been a disappointing weekend thus far with a definitive victory, though special mention must go to Gino Rea for his spectacular - but ultimately unfulfilling - performance on the Step Racing Honda.
