Haslam wants podium at BMW's home race

Leon Haslam sets his sights on a return to the podium ahead of BMW's home World Superbike event at the Nurburgring.
Leon Haslam is looking to get the final portion of his 2011 World Superbike Championship campaign off to a good start with a strong result for BMW at their home Nurburgring circuit.

Haslam regained some of his and the team's form last time out at Silverstone with a run to fourth position, but is hoping the prolonged summer break has given BMW the chance to rediscover the pace that had them on the podium earlier in the year.

Indeed, Haslam is eager to score a good result for BMW at the Nurburgring, not least because the manufacturer is yet to crack the top five on home soil.

“I am looking forward to the Nürburgring,” Haslam, who is fifth in the standings, said. “After a long break you are always quite keen to get back on the bike. The track has a lot of changes of directions. It is quite fast in places and has a lot of heavy braking, especially Turn 1. Those are definitely the areas of the race track where it is important to have the right set-up to get the best result.

“The Nürburgring has always been a good circuit for me. Last year I was on the podium there. It is a circuit where good results are possible. And clearly this is the home race for BMW, so we will obviously try to come back strong after the break and to get back on the podium where we belong.

“At the last race weekend we just missed out on the podium, so it would be nice to get back there in Germany.”

Leon has much more talent than the bike he is riding. I really thought Leon on the BMW would do well this year but such poor results were not expected. I would like to see him ride Camier's Aprilla !! :-p
